Description

Our Dodge Charger tail light tint is a pre-cut, dark smoke vinyl overlay for every 2015–2023 Charger, SXT to Hellcat. It gives the racetrack tail light a blacked-out look, goes on dry in about 30 minutes with no cutting required, and can be removed easily if you want to go back to stock.

What’s in the box

  • Four pre-cut dark smoke pieces: two for each tail light (left and right), each labeled with its position
  • Two extra practice pieces for the driver side, so you can get a feel for the vinyl first
  • Install instructions made for the 2015–2023 Charger
  • A squeegee and a microfiber towel

Fits every 2015–2023 Dodge Charger

Dodge used the same tail light on every trim of the 2015–2023 Charger, so one kit fits them all:

ChargerTrimsFits our tint kit?
2015–2023SXT, GT (V6, RWD and AWD)Yes
2015–2023R/T, Scat Pack, Scat Pack WidebodyYes
2015–2023SRT 392, SRT Hellcat, Hellcat Widebody, Redeye, JailbreakYes

The Widebody only changes the fenders, so the tail lights and the kit are the same as on the standard car.

The blacked-out look: what the dark smoke shade looks like

The Charger’s racetrack tail light is the signature of the car, and tinting the tail lights is one of the cheapest ways to make the back look meaner and more finished. Our kits come in one shade, a dark smoke. With the lights off, the tinted lights look smoked, almost black. With the lights on, the LEDs still glow red through the vinyl, just a little deeper and less glaring than stock. The brake lights stay clearly visible to the driver behind you.

The vinyl also covers the lens surface, so it takes the small stone chips and scratches instead of your factory lights.

Why pre-cut, dry install vinyl

There are three ways to tint tail lights, and this is the one that is easiest to get right:

Our pre-cut vinylTint film from a rollSpray tint
CuttingNone. Every piece is cut to shape and labeled. You cut and trim it on the light with a blade. You mask the light and spray it.
InstallDry, about 30 minutesOften wet, 2 to 4 hours plus drying timeA weekend, tail light removal recommended
BubblesAir-release channels let the air outCheap film traps air and waterRuns and uneven patches instead
Can you undo it?Yes, it is not permanent. Remove it whenever you like.Yes, not permanentHardly, it needs sanding and polishing

Wet install film is mostly the cheap, thin stuff: it needs water to be positioned at all, looks hazy for days and lifts at the edges on curved lights. Dry install vinyl is thicker automotive vinyl with a stronger adhesive. It is easier to install, looks finished the moment you are done and lasts longer.

How to install Charger tail light tint (about 30 minutes)

Every kit comes with install instructions made for the Charger, so you can see where each labeled piece goes before you start. The short version:

  1. Clean the lights. Wash and dry them, then wipe them with isopropyl alcohol to remove wax and grease. Work in a garage or in the shade on a mild day.
  2. Practice and test the fit. Try a practice piece on a flat part of the lens, then hold the real piece in place with the backing still on so you know where the edges go.
  3. Peel and place. Peel the backing and lay the piece on from one edge, lined up with the edge of the light. It goes on dry, so no water or slip solution. If it is crooked, lift it gently and try again.
  4. Squeegee from the center out. The air-release channels let trapped air escape, so small bubbles push out to the edge with a few strokes.
  5. Warm the edges. Go around the edges with a heat gun on low or a hair dryer and press them down with the squeegee wrapped in the towel. Hold the heat far enough away that it doesn’t burn your hand. If it is too hot, you are too close and can damage the vinyl.

Then leave it alone and don’t wash the car for 72 hours, so the adhesive can bond fully.

Pair it with our Charger tail light decals

If you want the back of the car to look custom, add our Dodge Charger tail light decal kit. The decals put gloss black graphics over parts of the tail light and work with or without the tint. For more parts for your car, see all Dodge Charger accessories.

Tail light tint FAQ

Is tail light tint legal?

It depends on your state. Most states require tail lights and brake lights to show red and be visible from a set distance, and a few ban any cover over a light. Tail light tint kits in general, ours included, are sold for show and off-road use, so check your state’s vehicle code before you drive on them. This is not legal advice, and laws change.

Does tail light tint reduce brightness?

Yes, a little. Any tint absorbs some light, and a dark smoke absorbs more than a light one. The 2015–2023 Charger has bright LED tail lights, so with our tint they still glow clearly red at night, just deeper and less glaring than stock.

Can I remove the tint later?

Yes. Warm the vinyl with a hair dryer and peel it off slowly from one corner. It comes off the factory lens without damaging it, so you can go back to stock before you sell the car or before an inspection.

How long does tail light tint last?

Good automotive vinyl like ours usually lasts several years on a car that is washed regularly. Strong sun all year, harsh chemicals and a pressure washer aimed at the edges shorten its life.

Will the tint bubble?

Not if you follow the instructions. The vinyl has air-release channels, so small bubbles push out with the squeegee. A tiny bubble left after the install usually disappears within a few days. If one stays, prick it with a fine pin and press the air out.

Does it fit the Scat Pack, Hellcat and Widebody?

Yes. Every 2015–2023 Charger has the same tail light, from the SXT and GT to the R/T, Scat Pack, SRT 392, Hellcat, Redeye and the Widebody versions. It does not fit the 2011–2014 Charger or the 2024 and later Charger Daytona.
