Description
Our Dodge Durango tail light tint is a pre-cut, dark smoke vinyl overlay for every 2014–2027 Durango, SXT to SRT Hellcat. It tints the inner sections of both tail lights for a smoked, blacked-out look, goes on dry in about 30 minutes with no cutting required, and can be removed easily if you want to go back to stock.
What’s in the box
- Four pre-cut dark smoke pieces: two for each tail light (left and right), each labeled with its position
- Two extra practice pieces for the driver side, so you can get a feel for the vinyl first
- Install instructions made for the 2014–2027 Durango
- A squeegee and a microfiber towel
Fits every 2014–2027 Dodge Durango
The 2014 refresh gave the Durango its full-width racetrack tail light, and our kit fits every trim since:
| Durango | Trims | Fits our tint kit? |
|---|---|---|
| 2014–2027 | SXT, GT, Citadel (3.6 V6) | Yes |
| 2014–2027 | R/T (5.7 Hemi) | Yes |
| 2018–2027 | SRT 392 | Yes |
| 2021, 2023 and later | SRT Hellcat | Yes |
The racetrack tail light, smoked
The Durango’s racetrack tail light runs across the whole liftgate, and it is the first thing people see from behind. Our overlays tint the inner sections of the tail lights on each side, while the thin red racetrack line stays stock. That keeps the light bar clearly red and gives the back of the SUV a darker, more expensive look.
Our kits come in one shade, a dark smoke. With the lights off, the tinted sections look smoked, almost black. With the lights on, the LEDs still shine through, just a little deeper than stock. The vinyl also covers the lens surface, so it takes small stone chips and scratches instead of your factory lights.
Why pre-cut, dry install vinyl
There are three ways to tint tail lights, and this is the one that is easiest to get right:
| Our pre-cut vinyl | Tint film from a roll | Spray tint | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Cutting | None. Every piece is cut to shape and labeled. | You cut and trim it on the light with a blade. | You mask the light and spray it. |
| Install | Dry, about 30 minutes | Often wet, 2 to 4 hours plus drying time | A weekend, tail light removal recommended |
| Bubbles | Air-release channels let the air out | Cheap film traps air and water | Runs and uneven patches instead |
| Can you undo it? | Yes, it is not permanent. Remove it whenever you like. | Yes, not permanent | Hardly, it needs sanding and polishing |
Wet install film is mostly the cheap, thin stuff: it needs water to be positioned at all, looks hazy for days and lifts at the edges on curved lights. Dry install vinyl is thicker automotive vinyl with a stronger adhesive. It is easier to install, looks finished the moment you are done and lasts longer.
How to install Durango tail light tint (about 30 minutes)
Every kit comes with install instructions made for the Durango, so you can see where each labeled piece goes before you start. The short version:
- Clean the lights. Wash and dry them, then wipe them with isopropyl alcohol to remove wax and grease. Work in a garage or in the shade on a mild day.
- Practice and test the fit. Try a practice piece on a flat part of the lens, then hold the real piece in place with the backing still on so you know where the edges go.
- Peel and place. Peel the backing and lay the piece on from one edge, lined up with the edge of the light. It goes on dry, so no water or slip solution. If it is crooked, lift it gently and try again.
- Squeegee from the center out. The air-release channels let trapped air escape, so small bubbles push out to the edge with a few strokes.
- Warm the edges. Go around the edges with a heat gun on low or a hair dryer and press them down with the squeegee wrapped in the towel. Hold the heat far enough away that it doesn’t burn your hand. If it is too hot, you are too close and can damage the vinyl.
Then leave it alone and don’t wash the car for 72 hours, so the adhesive can bond fully.

Tail light tint FAQ
Does it cover the full-width racetrack light?
No. The overlays tint the inner sections of the tail lights on each side, and the thin red racetrack line across the liftgate stays stock. That keeps the light bar clearly red while the rest of the tail lights look smoked.
Is tail light tint legal?
It depends on your state. Most states require tail lights and brake lights to show red and be visible from a set distance, and a few ban any cover over a light. Tail light tint kits in general, ours included, are sold for show and off-road use, so check your state’s vehicle code before you drive on them. This is not legal advice, and laws change.
Does it fit the SRT 392 and Hellcat?
Yes. The kit fits every 2014–2027 Durango with the racetrack tail light, including the R/T, SRT 392 and SRT Hellcat. It does not fit the 2011–2013 Durango.
What about condensation in the tail light?
A little fog inside the tail light after a car wash or a cold night is normal and clears once the lights warm up. The tint goes on the outside of the lens, so it doesn’t trap moisture inside the light. Water that stays or pools at the bottom of the light means a seal has failed, and that is worth fixing before you tint.
Can I remove the tint later?
Yes. Warm the vinyl with a hair dryer and peel it off slowly from one corner. It comes off the factory lens without damaging it, so you can go back to stock before you sell the car or before an inspection.
Will the tint bubble?
Not if you follow the instructions. The vinyl has air-release channels, so small bubbles push out with the squeegee. A tiny bubble left after the install usually disappears within a few days.
